Logitech Harmony One
The idea behind the Logitech Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote is that you list all your TVs, Entertainment centres & other equipment operated by remotes. Simply log onto the Logitech website download the matching codes from their online company database. Once the device intructions have been copied across to your logitech universal remote you will then be able to control all your equipment from the one remote. This is so much easier, faster and less frustrating than having to punch a series of codes directly into your universal remote.
Logitech have done a brilliant design on this universal remote --both visually and ergonomically. The remote looks smooth and is comfortably in your hand. The button layout is exceptional and these are backlight - there are actually fewer buttons than on other remotes which helps to make it simple to operate with the colour touch screen located at the top.
This new touch sensitive screen is a big innovation for Logitech and makes the remote a pleasure to use and it is customisable, allowing you to set up your own backgrounds and buttons.
One neat feature is that the Logitech Harmony One features a motion sensor, so that once the remote is picked up it automatically turns on. This helps conserve battery power as the remote touch screen turns off after a period of time to save energy. The batteries them selves are replacable lithium-ion batteries which are recharged automatically whenever the remote is resting in its docking station. No more worries about replacing and recharging batteries. The batteries themselves should be able to last a week without recharge & will last a number of years before they need renewed.
Logitech Harmony One Universal Advanced remotes are programmed by connecting your remote to your PC or MAC with the USB cable, installing the Harmony Software and then connecting to the Logitech Online database. From there you choose the equipment you need to control and answer a few questions explaining how they are connected and how you wish them to be controlled. The software then uploads all the required control codes to your Harmony One. You can even setup the Harmony remote to control your xbox 360.
However if you have a complicated system you may require to do some fine tuning to setup things exactly as you would like - the website provides various macros and commands which allow you to setup delay times, multi-step commands and other more complex or specific functions. If there are any setup issues there is help information built directly into the Touch screen and Logitechs 24 hour customer support is on hand to resolve your issue.
It is difficult to find anything wrong with the Harmony One - OK it is expensive but not when you consider you are getting the Rolls Royce of universal remotes. The Logitech Harmony One really is the number One.
Logitech Harmony One
Although it is more expensive than other remotes the Logitech Harmony Ones ability to be updated from the online Logitech database means that you will never need be concerned about setting up the remote for your piece of equipment.
With its good looks & ease of use the Harmony One really is a joy to use compared to the clutter of remotes most of us have to control our diverse range of equipment.
The full MRSP of the Harmony One is £159 pounds and you can pay that at Logitech if you want - but at the moment there is a great deal on at Amazon where you can buy it for around one hundred pounds, a saving of over £50 pounds.
My advice is to shoot across to Amazon now and buy one while they are still in stock.
